Mike Pearce, 83, died Sunday at Superior. He was born March 28, 1941, at Superior to Locuis and Wanda (Walden) Pearce. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, at Evergreen Cemetery, Superior, with Danny Jackson and Bob Angelton officiating. The Superior High School boys and girls track and field teams competed at the Sandy Creek Invitational last Tuesday. The girls team finished in fifth place, with 51.5 points, in the field of Central City, Fairbury, Hastings St. Cecilia, Doniphan-Trumbull, Sandy Creek, Heartland and Sutton. The Superior High School golf team competed at the Sandy Creek quadrangular match last Tuesday. The match was played over the Crooked Creek course at Clay Center. Superior with a score of 205 in the field of Sandy Creek, Lawrence-Nelson and Fillmore Central. Sutton also entered a team. The four lowest scores make up the team result. The Lawrence-Nelson boys and girls track and field teams competed at the Franklin Invitational, at Franklin, last Tuesday. The girls team finished in eighth place, with 27 points, in the 12 team field of Loomis, Deshler, Silver Lake, Shelton, Gibbon, Wilcox-Hildreth, Franklin, Red Cloud, Heartland Lutheran, Hi-Line and Blue Hill. The Lawrence-Nelson golf team took part in the Sandy Creek quadrangular match at Crooked Creek Country Club at Clay Center last Tuesday. Teams from Fillmore Central, Superior, Sutton and Sandy Creek also took part. The Raiders finished with a team score of 216. The four lowest rounds constitute the team score. The teams continue to impress as two school records were broken at this meet. Grace Ayers secured third place in the long jump. Savannah Coil was in eighth place in the triple jump. The 2024 track season seems to be getting off to a slow start with the weather, but then on the occasion of the Franklin Invitational, members of the junior class had other commitments they could not give up and missed this track meet.
