Readers are vital to the success of a newspaper. If newspapers were not read, there would be no need to prepare a newspaper but the importance of readers does not stop with reading. They are also the eyes and ears of a newspaper. We rely on our readers to keep us posted on what is happening in the communities we serve. If you are missing something that was once part of the this newspaper, it is most likely missing because those who once submitted the stories are no longer doing so. We appreciate...
How we treasure our family heirlooms, if we are fortunate enough to have some handed down to us. Maybe we treasurer them a little too much. Sometimes we store these heirlooms safely and neatly tucked away in a chest, a drawer or a cabinet. There they remain unused, and not viewed for a long periods of time. We are so afraid something will happen to them that we wait to to use them or a look at them. They are never fully enjoyed. Maybe the well kept heirloom is grandmother’s china and silverware too special to use, a quilt that was lovingly made...

A crew from Jayhawk Bowling Supply, Lawrence, Kan., installed the new synthetic lanes at the establishment last week. They installed overlays after sanding down the surface. of the alleys. A...
As members of the Formso Fire Department answered a call for assistance last Wednesday and headed to the Lovewell area, Bob Rouse, the department's fire chief, told the fire fighters "It is dry enough to burn and wet enough to sink." He did not need to add "Be careful," for the experienced fire fighters knew the risks. The disappearing February snow cover has left numerous wet spots where a truck can sink into the mud but low humdity has made the proper environment for the cover to burn....

Jacob is officially a licensed driver! I dropped him at the courthouse Tuesday morning and had him call me to bring the car down when his number was called. I’m so proud of him but nervous at the same time. Not quite as much as when his older brother got his license, but nervous just the same. I know I’ve said it before, but this “letting go” thing is “for the birds.” Don’t even get me started on the increase in car insurance. I don’t have much to tell you all about this week. We are all healthy. Nothing of note has happened in the last week o...

Progress . . . Everyone wants progress in the traditional meaning of the word. The dictionary defines the word as “to move forward or to develop to a higher, better or more advanced stage.” Gosh, I’m sure we all want that. How-so-ever . . . I just don’t understand why the Democratic Party uses the term “progressive” to identify themselves. I would like to compare two states: New York and Florida in certain broad categories and see what you think. • New York: The governor is what most would consider a ‘Liberal, Progressive” person: Andrew Cuomo,...
