    The Lawrence-Nelson boys basketball team navigated their way through the sub-district D2-3 bracket with wins over Deshler last Tuesday, 43-49 and Giltner Thursday, 44-30, to move on to the D-2 district finals. The sub-district tournament was played at Nelson. The Raiders will enter district play as the number 15 seed.     Lauren Whelchel, a Rock Hills High School six-foot forward, was listed on a list of top 25 girls basketball players to watch in western Kansas. Whelchel had a strong sophomore season, averaging 16.2 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals. She was first-team Northern Plains League selection. Rock Hills finished 10-5 last year.     The Rock Hills girls basketball team finished the regular season section of their schedule with a 56-40 loss to Osborne at Mankato last Tuesday. The Grizzlies compiled a 12-9 record in regular season play. Rock Hills was never in contention against Osborne. They had lost to Osborne 62-30 in their first meeting of the season at the Northern Plains League Tournament.     The Rock Hills High School boys basketball team fell to the Osborne Bulldogs 54-26 in their regular season finale. The Grizzlies were eliminated from sub-state play when they fell to Lincoln, 43-24, at Lincoln, Friday. The loss left Rock Hills with a 3-16 record for the season. Rock Hills trailed 24-5 at the half.     Coe Neilson competed for Rock Hills at the KSHSAA 3A/2A/1A championship meet at Fort Hays University Friday and Saturday. Neilson wrestled in the 106 pound weight bracket. He won his opening round match by fall over Andrew Stewart of Pleasant Ridge. He lost by a fall to Cohen Kaiser, Plainville, in his next match. The loss relegated Neilson to the consolation round.     The Superior High School girls basketball team will not be returning to the state Class C-2 tournament for this year. The Wildcats saw their way to Lincoln derailed by a 53-41 loss to the Crofton Warriors at Central Community College, Columbus, Friday.     Kalynn Meyer, a 2020 Superior High School graduate, was a dominant student-athlete. She was a major force on the volleyball, girls basketball and track teams. It was the clash of Eagles as B-D-S downed the Elgin Public-Pope John Eagles, 63-57, in overtime, at Shelby-Rising City High School, Shelby, Friday.
