For three quarters, the Lawrence-Nelson boys basketball team had a place at the state championship within their grasp. They led the Sumner-Eddyville-Miller Mustangs 39-35 going into the fourth quarter at the game at Sumner Saturday. Then it all fell apart. The Lawrence-Nelson girls basketball team was faced with a harsh reality Friday as they faced off against the Overton eagles, at Overton, in the District D2-1 final game. The Raiders, despite winning their sub-district bracket, were pitted against the number one seed. The results were predictable. Overton opened up a 40-15 lead at the halfway mark and was never challenged as the Eagles cruised to a 63 19 win and a place at the state championship tournament at Lincoln.
