  • SHS girls see season end at sub-district

    Feb 25, 2021

The only route available for the Superior High School girls basketball team to the state basketball tournament was through the sub-district and district route. Matters began well for Superior when they toppled number two seed Thayer Central 59-49 at Sutton last Tuesday. Thayer Central had defeated Superior in their previous two meetings. Unfortunately for Superior, they advanced to play Sutton, the number one seed, Thursday, at Sutton. In a must-win game for the Wildcats, they came up on the short end of the 52-44 score. The Mustangs had...

Robert Dankemeyer, 60, is apparently headed to federal court. Last June, he was arrested and accused of using a gun to threaten people outside of a bar. He has now been charged in federal district with intent to distribute meth and being a felon in possession of a firearm. If convicted he could face l...

  • Raider Boys' Basketball ends regular season

    Feb 25, 2021

The Raider boys' basketball team entertained Deshler last Friday in Nelson and the game reminded me of an old bit of wisdom I learned some place. It went like this: "What do you do when you find yourself in a deep hole?" Answer: "You stop digging!" For the final regular season game of the season, one of the top teams in class D-1 came to Nelson last Friday. Deshler came into the game with a record of 14-5 and it didn't take too long for them to demonstrate their ability. L-N 7 5 18 18 – 48 D...

State playoff games are set up and directed by the Nebraska School Activities Association. For the 2020-2021 season, L-N was assigned to District D2-7 and was played at Franklin High School. L-N was the number three seed with Franklin being number one and Wilcox-Hildreth being number two. L-N won both games to claim the sub-district championship, starting with No. 2 seed W-H in a close game and needing a strong fourth period to claim the win. The championship game against the No. 1 seed...

  • Sunday afternoon

    Feb 25, 2021

Sunday afternoon seemed balmy with temperatures in the low 30s after the area was blanketed with snow and subzero temperatures last week. Isabella Fullerton (left) and Marley Edwards, dressed in their snow suits and took advantage of a dry side walk to walk their doll and experiment with snow sculpting....

  • Subzero temperature

    Feb 25, 2021

Subzero temperature, wind and moisture created intriguing ice designs in Superior last week. This photo is of the wagon wheel mounted outside of the Warner Cowboy Museum on Central Street immediately south of Superior Ace Hardware....
