A World Marriage Day celebration was started in 1983 in the United States. It is celebrated on the second Sunday of February annually. The Lawrence-Nelson girls basketball team saw their path to the district finals blocked by Shelton. The one-loss Bulldogs put an end to the Raiders' hopes with a 65-18 walloping at Shelton Friday. Lawrence-Nelson earned their way into the sub-district D-2 6 final when they downed Heartland Lutheran 50-30 at Shelton last Tuesday. Joseph "Joe" Patrick Sullivan, the son Eugene and Velma (Bailey) Sullivan was born on a farm Feb. 16, 1939, near Superior, Nebraska. He died February 17, 2023 at the CHI Health St. Francis Medical Center at Grand Island, Nebraska at the age of 84 years and one day. He was baptized in the St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Superior where he was a lifelong member. In 1960, he was united in marriage to Nancy Harpham. To this union was born one daughter and four sons. Charles "Chuck" E. Persinger, Sr., 74, of Beatrice died Thursday, Feb. 16, 2023, at Beatrice Community Hospital and Health Center. He was born Aug. 12, 1948, in Superior. Chuck was a hard worker and worked for more than 25 years on government contracts as a ration man on several Army bases. Ted Edwin Delka Jr, 61, the son of Myrtie J. (Bailey) and Ted Edwin Delka, was born March 17, 1961, at Red Cloud. Ted died peacefully surrounded by his family at his home in Guide Rock, on Feb. 16, 2023. Ted grew up in the Guide Rock community and received his formal education attending the Guide Rock schools, graduating with the Class of 1979. Seven teams competed for the state drill team high kick title in Grand Island, Friday, at the Heartland Events Center. The Superior High School Drill team brought home the State Class C-2/D runner-up trophy. Stephanie Corman, coach, said, “ I am proud of this group of girls.
