    The Bruning-Davenport-Shickley Eagles cruised through their sub-district D-1-3 bracket to earn a place in the District D-1 8 finals. The Eagles had no trouble with Red Cloud, winning 42-28, last Tuesday at Davenport, in their opening round game. D-D-S breezed past Deshler, Thursday, 33-18 to advance to the district finals. This week we’ll expand a little to comment on area schools and what changes will be coming about.     A number of residents of Lawrence may not remember 1998 for any specific reason, but that was a year of importance for the village’s residents. The village was having trouble with providing water for the residents as the existing wells were failing to supply the necessary water. For the primary election this spring, the first deadline has passed and that was for incumbents who wanted to seek re-election. The second deadline come Tuesday, March 1.     According to Vicki Ensign, Nuckolls County Treasurer, the delinquent taxpayer’s list that appeared in The Nuckolls County Locomotive-Gazette on Feb. 3, 10 and 17, and in The Superior Express on Feb. 17, means those taxes are up for sale. Ensign said the deadline for paying these taxes will be before 10 a.m., March 7, in order to avoid the tax lien that will be created if a private investor purchases the delinquent taxes.     The Lawrence-Nelson boys basketball team closed out the regular season portion of their schedule with a 55-29 win against Deshler, at Deshler, Friday. The win left the Raiders with a 10-11 record for regular season play. The Raiders opened sub-district D2-3 play at Nelson, Tuesday. They played the winner of Monday’s Deshler-Harvard game. Game results were unavailable at press time. Deshler proved to be no problem for the Raiders who held a 25-8 half time lead.
