    Eugene (Gene) Adrian Svoboda, 83, of Deweese, Nebraska, died Monday Feb. 6, at the Sutton Community Home. Visitation was from 1 to 4 p.m.,Sunday, Feb. 12. The Rosary followed at 4 p.m. Mass was at 10 a.m., Monday, Feb. 13. All were held at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church, Deweese, with Father Jamie Hottovy officiating.     Gerry Lynn Schultz, 77, of Clifton, Colorado, died at Grand Junction, Colorado, on Friday, Jan. 20, 2023, after a short illness. He was preceeded in death by his parents, Gerald and Wanda Schultz, and his wife, Carolyn. Survivors include a a son, Mike (Mitze), a daughter, Michelle, eight grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two sisters, Carolyn Drohman and husband, Jerry, of Kingsland, Texas, and Marilyn Carlson of Lincoln, Nebraska.     Lagreta Arlene Jensby was born Dec. 24, 1932, to Joe and Verna Dawson in Fairbury, Nebraska. She loved her older sister, Barbara, and her younger sister, Joletta. She attended school in Fairbury, graduating in 1950 and remaining friends with many of her classmates throughout the years. Growing up, Lagreta had a newspaper route and later progressed to jobs at an ice cream shop, Lester Jones Studio, and the Elgin Watch Factory.     Ila “Lou” Sams was born July 29, 1931, in Davenport, to Adolph and Helen (Isch) Heinrichs. She completed her schooling and graduated from high school at the age of 16. She moved to Lincoln, Nebraska, to attend a clerical school during which time she worked weekends as a telephone operator. After completing these courses, the family moved to Henryetta, Oklahoma, in 1949. Her father opened a restaurant and this is where she met Ray Sams. They married on Jan. 20, 1951.     Virginia B. (Shoemaker) Douglas was born on Oct. 7, 1929, in rural Jewell County, to John and Merle (Dean) Shoemaker. She died Feb. 2, 2023, at the age of 93, in Marysville. Virginia graduated from Glen Elder (Kansas) High School in 1947. She was united in marriage to Melvin Douglas on June 6, 1949. To this union two sons were born, Terry and Gary.     The Superior High School boys and girls wrestling teams will be well represented at the state wrestling tournament at the CHI Health Center Arena, Omaha, today (Thursday), Friday and Saturday.     The Superior High School boys basketball team lost 46-34 to rival Lawrence-Nelson in the intra Nuckolls County game at Superior Friday. Superior stayed close for the first two quarters, trailing 23-17 at the half. The Raiders exploited a 13-7 third quarter scoring advantage to keep the Wildcats at bay as Superior notched its 17th loss of the season along with four wins.     Coe Nielson finished in second place in the 106 pound weight bracket in his final season match for Beloit at the NCAA league tournament at Southeast of Saline at Gypsum Friday. he earned 14 team points for Beloit.
