I woke up to the birds chirping this morning; that was a nice change of pace. Usually, it’s my alarm clock squawking after I’ve hit snooze for the fifteenth time. The Lawrence-Nelson girls basketball team took home a seventh place finish in the Twin Valley Conference Tournament. The Raiders defeated Red Cloud 34-20 at the Hastings College gym in Hastings Saturday. Lawrence-Nelson played Harvard at Harvard Tuesday with game results unavailable at press time. A combined conference wrestling tournament was held last week for both the Fort Kearney Conference and the Twin Valley Conference to allow wrestlers more chances to compete. Among the 18 teams, Amherst won the event with 182.5 points; Red Cloud-Blue Hill was 2nd with 134.5 points. Pleasanton placed third with 124 points. Hastings, Nebraska resident, and Lawrence native, Jerome William Kolbet died Friday, Feb. 4, 2022, at Central Nebraska Veterans Home in Kearney. Delmer Lee Meyer, 74, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2022 at his home in Concordia. Delmer was born on April 23, 1947, to Elmer J. and Madeline (Christensen) Meyer in Superior, Neb. Kenneth “Roger” Ingram was born June 9, 1938, to Geraldine (Stewart) and Melvin Ingram in Jewell County, near Esbon, Kan., in a limestone house that still stands today.
