January 29 was Kansas Day! I’ve lived in Kansas all my life and I treasure my home state. Though some would ask, what’s so special about Kansas? There is a lot in Kansas to see and visit. Frontier Days saw some of the first railroads built through Kansas and this drew cattle ranchers in southern states to drive their cattle up to sell and transport on railroads. Towns such as Dodge City, Abilene and Ellsworth became famous “cattle towns.” There were several frontier forts in Kansas such as Fort Scott, Fort Leavenworth, Fort Hays, Fort Larned...
While racking my brain for a story to tell in this space, I read a daily newspaper’s headline which said, “Egg prices are soaring; don’t expect that to change anytime soon.” And that got me wishing I had a place for a small chicken coop and a few hens. I didn’t take my temperature but perhaps I should have for chickens were my least favorite animal while growing up in the country. Why would I ever long to have a small chicken coop? Chickens habe never cooperated with me. When I was a youngster living on Blauvelt’s Hill, they didn’t like...
When I came home from the hospital as a baby, I slept in a bassinet at the foot of my parent’s bed. Their bed was called a “Hollywood” bed. This meant it consisted of two twin beds tied together by a single headboard. This style bed was used by the motion picture industry to show pictures of a husband and wife in bed together although the actor and actress were not married to each other. Of course, I eventually outgrew the bassinet and presented my parents with a new dilemma. Luckily, when my father built their little house, he had presented my...

Most of them have come to the following conclusions: First, the Gospels were written shortly after the events they describe....
Puffs Dreams . . . Do you dream ? ? ? or maybe better asked: how often do you dream? I don’t think I dream every night, but I do have dreams every so often. At least over the years, I’ve been told by Nancy and by many others they dream often. However, last week I had a dream I thought just didn’t make any sense. It went something like this: I was working in the office of “The Lawrence Locomotive” and as I was working, I heard an alarm clock go off. I searched for it, found it and shut it off. I quickly heard another, and then several,...
