Thursday evening residents of Superior were invited to attend a public meeting reviewing the results of a community attitude survey. In previous years such surveys were personally delivered. This year residents of the community were invited to respond to an on-line survey. This year’s participation rate was a fraction of what was obtained in the last go-round. That time the survey had a 72 percent response rate. This time it was only 16 percent. Forty-seven percent of those responding were in the 19 to 44 age group. The other 53 per cent w...
Brandi Erickson and her three children escaped without injury Monday evening when their Byron residence caught fire, but their lives will never be the same. The children include a boy and two girls between the ages of five and twelve. Around 11:30 p.m., their neighbor, Wendy Nutsch, directly across the street to the west came home from work and thought she smelled smoke, but could see nothing. She decided it must be smoke from someone’s fireplace. About an hour later Brandi’s oldest dau...

We continue to receive reports of mysterious sights and sounds but find few answers. Friday night a woman living near Superior’s Methodist Church said she saw a group of drones flying in formation above the church. She told a reporter for this newspaper that she was unable to count the number because they kept “turning their lights off and on” but she estimated their were 10 or 12 in the formation. She estimated their altitude was about twice that of the cell phone tower located just south of the church. Does she have photographic proof of what...

National Freedom Day is not a national holiday but one of the many “observed” holidays in the United States. Holidays such as Ground Hog Day (Feb. 2) or Halloween (Oc. 31) are also “observed” holidays. National Freedom Day observes the signing of the resolution that banned slavery in the United States. The resolution was the 13th Amendment to the U. S. Constitution. It would set millions of slaves free. It was 155 years ago on Feb. 1, 1865, that President Abraham Lincoln signed the joint resolution of the United States House and Senate proposi...

Just about every loyal and dedicated Kansas City Chief’s fan is anxiously waiting for Super Bowl Sunday to arrive. I’m proud to admit that I too am one of those Chief fans. During the fall and well into the winter months, Chief fans have been cheering them on through every NFL game they have played. The amazing quarterback, Mahomes, twisted and threw the football to the receivers leaving all the sports announcers and fans amazed. Fans worried and shot up prayers when Mahomes was injured having to sit out a few of the mid season games. Tha...
There was a time when I was awed by politicians and hoped I could be one when I grew up. When I was a wee lad I played on the floor of my family’s home while my father listened to radio broadcasts originating at the major national political conventions. At one of the conventions, there was an unplanned back stage fire which added to the excitement. At the time I thought it a big deal but this week I couldn’t find a story about it on the internet. But I did learn about other fires which destroyed the Democrats’ convention halls. I didn...
