    Robert F. Brahmsteadt, age 82, of York, Nebraska, died Friday, January 20, 2023, at his home. He was born March 8, 1940, in York to Benjamin H. and Esther V. ( Pohl) Brahmsteadt. After graduating from high school, Robert continued farming on the family farm north of York. On June 7 1969, Robert married Linda J. (Schuster) Meade.     Marvin "Mac" J. McDill was born on Dec.19, 1934, in rural Jewell County, Kansas, to Raymond Alma McDill and Ruth May (Underwood) McDill. He died Jan. 19, 2023, in Belleville, at the age of 88 years and 1 month. Marvin attended the White School District to the 8th grade.     The Lawrence-Nelson boys basketball team picked up a win Friday at Nelson when they downed Diller-Odell 47-26 to even their record at 7-7. The team hosted Blue Hill at Nelson Tuesday with game results unavailable at press time. Diller-Odell took the first quarter lead at 9-5. That was the last time they led.     The Lawrence-Nelson girls basketball team dropped two games in the past week. The Deshler Dragons edged out the Raiders 40-36 at Nelson last Tuesday. The Diller-Odell Griffins dominated the Raiders 68-37 at Nelson Friday leaving the team with a 4-11 record as the season winds down.     The Rock Hills High School boys basketball team competed in the 2023 Northern Plains League Basketball Tournament. The team forfeited their opening round game to Southern Cloud. This relegated the Grizzlies to the consolation round. They defeated Chase 63-31 last Monday at Tescott. They downed Tescott 41-34 at Tescott last Tuesday.     The Rock Hills High School girls basketball team downed Lincoln 47-30 in their opening round Northern Plains League Tournament game at Lincoln. The Osborne Bulldogs handed the Grizzlies a 63-98 loss at Lincoln last Monday.     Cole Nielson competed at the Beloit Invitational Tournament at Beloit Friday and Saturday. Nielson took fifth place in the 113 pound weight bracket. He earned 12 team points for his finish.     The Superior High School girls and boys wrestling teams traveled to Hebron Friday for the Thayer Central Invitational.     The Superior High School boys basketball team stumbled down a dark alley in Doniphan, Friday, and were ruthlessly mugged by the undefeated Cardinals 71-33. Superior trailed 41-9 at the half. The Cardinals substituted freely in the third and fourth quarters but kept Superior at bay as the Wildcats absorbed their 14th loss of the season.     The Superior High School girls basketball team is in peak form as they extended their consecutive win streak to eight games when they downed Doniphan-Trumbull 50-31, at Doniphan, Friday.     In memoriam: Lewis “Lew” Hunter, a screenwriting professor emeritus in the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television, died Jan. 6, at a care facility in Tucson, Arizona, from COVID-19 complications. He was 87. Hunter, who began teaching at UCLA in 1979, helped create the modern version of the school’s graduate FTV 434 course, which guides students step by step on how to write a full-length screenplay in 10 weeks.
