    On Friday the Nelson American Legion had its annual chili cook-off. The event began at approximately 5:30 p.m. Those attending gave a free will donation and enjoyed several specialty home-made chili soups. Each one was slightly different from the other, several were made from secret family recipes. They were all delicious, which made it hard to choose a winner from the lot.     Basketball Team win last 4 of 5 games Last week the Raider boys basketball team had the usual two games and may have added two victories if it wasn’t for the last eight minutes of the first game.     The L-N girls' basketball team is about three points away from winning their last five ball games. A two point loss to McCool Junction prohibited that claim to fame, but winning four of their last five games improved the team's record to 4-6 after five tough games to start the season.     The third oldest of six children was born to Hilda (Ostdiek) and Richard Rempe on May 12, 1938. The little girl was born at home on the family farm near Lawrence, Nebraska. She was baptized on May 14, 1938, at St. Stephen's Church and named Luella Rose. Three brothers and two sisters would complete the Rempe family. The family later moved from the farm to Lawrence.
