Peters and Theo (McCune) Peters, was born Feb. 16, 1940, in rural Beloit, Kansas, and died Dec. 28, 2023, at his home in Formoso, Kansas, at the age of 83. Mike grew up in Jewell County, attending school in Formoso, and several rural country schools. Following his schooling, he helped his dad with the custom silage business.     The Superior High School boys basketball team closed out 2023 with two losses at the Runza Holiday Tournament at Central City. The lost 64 to 23 to Cross County. The game was never close as the Wildcats trailed 37 to 9 at the half. They finished tourney play with a 49 to 22 loss to Bruning-Davenport-Shickley Saturday. They enter 2024 with a 1-9 record.     The Superior High School girls basketball team lost an overtime claw scratcher to the 10-0 Cross County Cougars in overtime, 62 to 55 at the Runza Holiday Tournament at Central City Friday. The Cougars outscored the Wildcats 14 to 7 in the overtime period to take the win. Superior visits Hebron Friday for matchup with Thayer Central.     The Superior High School boys and girls wrestling teams competed at the Fillmore Central Invitational at Geneva Saturday. The boys team finished 12th place, with 51 points in the 14 team field. The girls team finished in 12th place, with 35 points, in the 18 team field. Holden McDonald took third place honors and 14 team points in the 126 pound weight bracket.     Both the boys and girls basketball teams traveled west for the Holiday Basketball Tournament in Hershey, Nebraska, last week. They mixed it up with Class C-1 and C-2 schools and it didn’t turn out nice for the Raiders. Because of the holiday scheduling of work, school time and other demands, we did not have the ability to report fully on the games. The end results were a pair of losses for each team.
