March is here! Is it hooray or oh dear! Past years have taught us not to expect anything special, but to expect the unexpected. Green sprouts promising daffodils are showing up in yards. Even a few tulips are poking their green fingers through the soil. Wild rose stems are turning their particular shade of green in preparation for leaves to develop and later bloom. Clouds fill the sky hiding the warming rays of sun. On other days where the sun does reign, strong winds hurl the cooler temperatures overriding the warmth of the sun’s rays. S...

Magnificent 100 year old homes were on display in Jewell Sunday. And yes, some of them were well over 100 years old. They were built in the days before power tools and several were three stories high. Woodwork, doors and stairways were crafted from beautiful wood, complete with intricate detail work. The wood gleamed like new. Great care had been given over the years. Visionary carpenters created the exteriors in more amazing details. Many windows filled the houses with light. One house had curved glass windows. Most had welcoming porches....

Coquettish February! You try to make the most of your fewer days. But, really, you get an extra day this year. Behave and be brave to let warmer air filter into the world. You send snow, whether predicted or not. Your winds are bone-chilling and driven with force. Leaves scuttle across the yards and roads. Going around a corner into the wind sucks the breath right out of a person. Clouds come at will shadowing the earth making it seem colder than it really is. Your sun may shine in the sky. Yet so far away that no heat reaches the earth. Fits...

Kennedy and E. Hull. Ruth Alcorn and Wesley Ruth were engaged and there was to be a band concert in the new band stand located in the community park.
